Non-negotiable #1: Mindset (and Belief)
Lately, I’ve been receiving so many heartfelt notes from our community members about the meaningful offers they’ve been landing.
At first, they are excited about the actual salary they landed..but the excitement over how much they are going to make quickly fades and what lasts is a few things:
How proud they are of themselves
What their new salary means for how they show up for their loved ones
Knowing they just gained valuable skills that will last them forever (aka: they learned how to fish)
Each time I receive a note, I ask them to share what made the biggest difference for them.
And the one they credit to their success, more than the systems/strategies is: Mindset
I used to find that interesting, until I realized how much sense it made.
What I’ve found through my own journey, and following the journey of all of our community members is that: You can’t achieve anything meaningful, until you first have the right mindset.
Or better put: You can’t achieve anything meaningful, unless you first believe you can.
Belief makes or breaks EVERYTHING when you think about it, right? Especially if the thing you’re hoping to achieve is something that you have never touched, seen, or experienced before.
Take the most recent note I received last week:
It was from someone who, only 5 years ago was earning $42k and he just recently landed a $260k offer.

I naturally asked him what stood out, look at what he shared:
“It was mainly the mindset”

After that came the frameworks and systems that we teach.
He wasn’t the only one either. Almost each of our clients credits their mindset to what they achieved.
Here’s one from someone who recently landed a Senior Manager of Program Management, followed by someone who landed a Senior Project Manager role.

Okay…. so why is mindset or belief so important? Well, the belief-equation sums this up perfectly:

Now the next natural question is: Alright… I believe I can do it… now what?? How can I keep my mindset vs. having it waver?
This where Non-Negotiable #2 enters: Skillset
Once you believe you can achieve your desired goal (let’s assume it’s a $200k-$500k+ salary), you can’t rely on that alone.
Now you have to equip yourself with the right skills to actually achieve it.
Because, believing in yourself is only 1 part of the equation (yet a vitally important one).
But for that belief to last, you have to make sure you know what to actually do.
It’s like saying:
Believing you can get to “where you’re going” is the Mindset + Belief
Knowing how to get there is the Skillset
WIth me so far?
This is where systems come into place.
I’ve said this many times before, and I’ll keep saying it:
Landing a $200k – $500k+ offer doesn’t come from a hope and a prayer. It comes from systems.
Here’s what the person who went from $42k to $260k had to say:

So what is the skillset (aka system) required to landing a $200k-$500k+ job offer (for a company you admire, doing what you enjoy)?
It requires 5 components:

1. Getting clear on the ONE role you’re going to target next
2. Marketing yourself to speak to that one role via your Resume & LinkedIn profile
3. Generating high-quality interviews w/o applying
4. Knowing how to turn interviews into offers
5. Knowing how to negotiate intelligently
That’s the system.
\Alright, so now:
- You believe you can land a $200k – $500k+ job offer = Mindset
- You know what is required to get there, too. = Skillset
- What’s next?? Enter Non-negotiable #3
Non-Negotiable #3: Toolset
Think of it like this:
- If the destination is the Mindset
- The step-by-step GPS is the Skillset
- Then navigating each terrain you’ll experience along the way is the Toolset
This means, having the right resources for each step of the system described above:
1. Skillset: Getting clear on the one role you’re going to target next
Toolset: The Career Audit
2. Skillset: Marketing your skills experience to speak to the one role via your Resume and LinkedIn profile
Toolset: High converting Resume & LinkedIn templates
3. Skillset: Generating high-quality interviews w/o applying
Toolset: Intentional Networking: knowing who to identify / how to identify them / what to say to them
4. Skillset: Turning interviews into offers
Toolset: (this one has a lot, btw…) the overarching Toolset for this is: Consultative Interviewing
5. Skillset: Negotiating your worth intelligently
Toolset: The Chinese Menus philosophy
Hope the analogy makes sense now, but to drive hit home here’s the TL;DR
TL;DR: 3 Non-negotiables for landing a $200k – $500k+ Job Offer
Mindset + Skillset + Toolset
- Believing you can get to where you want (absolutely key) = Mindset
- Knowing how to get there = Skillset
- Knowing what to do at each turn = Toolset
Adopting these 3 non-negotiables prior to starting your job search is exactly what is going to help you:
- Remove the doubt
- Avoid the frustration
- Eliminate the uncertainty
And replace it with: Ease. Flow. And Grace.
