A friendly reminder for anyone interviewing for $200k – $500k+ tech roles.

When you get to the offer stage…

Negotiation isn’t just about base salary.

Oftentimes we create win-win total comp packages that allow folks to get paid more AND enjoy their day-to-day lives just a bit more.

We consider perks + money from things like sign on bonuses, RSUs, etc.

Here’s a checklist we review before accepting an offer:

– Job Title

– Upward Mobility

– Leadership Opportunity

– Relocation Support/Stipend

– Sign On Bonus

Bonus: salary negotiation email we use to ask for perks and/or salary bumps:

Hi {Name of Your Contact},

Thank you for the offer and the opportunity at {COMPANY}. I look forward to the potential of working with the team and growing with the company. After reviewing the offer and benefits handbook, I want to be fully transparent regarding the numbers.

Based on the exploratory research I did on this role (via Glassdoor, Salary .com , Payscale, and Comparably), and factoring in my background and how my experience along with my achievements are very much aligned with what is being required in this role, I found that more comparable salary range is anywhere between, $203,500 and $215,750.

Lastly, the other two roles I’m in the final stages of the interview process with have starting salaries of $205k+. Based on these numbers, I think we are a little off from my expectation of the salary and total compensation.

I would like to respectfully ask if there is any flexibility to close that gap and if you would consider one of the following options:

– $215,500 annual (with everything else remaining the same)
– $205,500 annual with 30% average bonus + $25k in RSU’s (Director title)
– $199,500 annual with 35% average bonus + $30k in RSU’s (Senior Director title)

Again, I am extremely optimistic about this opportunity and this is still my number one choice and happy to discuss this further.
